Frequently asked questions
What is the realized price of short-term holders?
The average price at which bitcoins held by people who have held them for less than 155 days last changed hands. It is their average cost basis. When price is above it, these holders are in profit on average.
Why does this level matter?
Short-term holders react to price fastest. When price falls below their cost basis, they start selling or hold only in hope of a recovery. In bull markets this level often acted as support, in bear markets as resistance. It is not a law, though.
What is the realized price of long-term holders?
The average cost basis of holders who have held bitcoin for more than 155 days. It is usually far below the price, because long-term holders bought earlier and cheaper.
Why is the current price from a different day?
The realized prices come from a source with a seven-day delay. We compare the current price with the last published level.
